The basement also contains a laundry room with six washers and six dryers. Washlava which is an advanced laundry technology is used to do laundry at 70 Amherst. The Washlaava app allows the residents to reserve the machines by payment via smartphone (iOS or Android) and monitor their laundry cycles. Washlava provides iTouch devices, which are available at the front desk, for students who do not use a smartphone. Please remember to SIGN OUT of the Washlava app when done, otherwise someone else will be using your money. You can use the iTouch devices when the front desk is open. Also, you can enquire at the front desk about the time limit on the borrowing time for these devices. You can watch this video to get a sense of how Washlava works.
The price per load (washer or dryer) is $1.25. You can use TechCASH to pay for your laundry in the Washlava app. Sign into the Washlava app and go to Account and Payment Details. Click on “Add a payment method” and select “Campus Card”. Find MIT TechCASH and log-in with your Kerberos credentials. In case you have trouble paying with TechCASH, please contact MIT’s TechCASH Support at techcash@mit.edu. Unfortunately, quarters cannot be used to pay for your laundry. If you’re new to using Washlava, there are different lights on the washers or dryers. If the light is green, it means that the machine is ready for use. A red light indicates that a machine is in use wheras a blue light indicates that the machine has been reserved by someone. You can reserve upto 3 machines for 10 minutes prior to use. Also, note that sometimes the bluetooth does not recognize the machine, in which case, you’ll have to enter the machine number manually in the Washlava app. If you notice that any of the laundry machines need to be repaired or replaced, please file a complaint with WashLava or fill out our Google Form, which can be accessed from Repair Requests, and we will file a ticket with WashLava.
