Quiet Hours

The quiet hours for 70 Amherst are 10 PM to 8 AM. Parties and loud noise are discouraged during the final exam period.

Emergency procedures

In case of fire alarm or emergency, residents must immediately exit the building and convene at the foot of Gray Way across Ames Street from the MIT Media Lab. If you have not already done so, please sign up for MIT Alerts for emergency notifications from the Institute.

New Common Area Policies

Residents are requested to adhere to the following house policies:
(a) Guests are not allowed in the kitchen, gym, and music room, but can stand in outdoor common spaces and in the downstairs study room 020.
(b) Please note that alcohol is allowed in the study room 020 (“Dining Room”) only. No Alcohol in the courtyard.
(c) Room reservations are temporarily lifted effective Monday 06/14 2021, except the study room 020.
(d) We are installing doorstops, so that you won’t need to check out keys from the front desk.

(f) Continue to wear a mask at all times while in the common areas of the residence and practice social distancing.

Courtyard

The courtyard is a public space, and therefore no alcohol can be present and/or consumed in the courtyard. The courtyard cannot be reserved for private resident events. 

There are two grills in the 70 Amherst courtyard available for resident use. For convenience in planning, one grill is available for reservation. The other grill is first come first serve, but sharing space is encouraged. Bring your own charcoal. To reserve a grill, email 70amherst-board@mit.edu. Here is a link to some grill safety tips!

However, the grills cannot be reserved currenly owing to the safety concerns associated with COVID-19.
